The 1.21 Cloud Update is here!

Oh, happy day! The Cloud Update is now available for Minecraft Education. Students and teachers can backup worlds to OneDrive, explore all the exciting new blocks, biomes, and mobs from the recent Tricky Trials release, and enjoy other improvements to gameplay and performance. Here’s a summary of the Cloud Update and information on how to update your devices.

Cloud storage has been one of our most requested features, and our engineering team has been hard at work bringing this to life! We are thrilled to enable OneDrive storage for Minecraft Education.

Now worlds are automatically uploaded to OneDrive on world close and downloaded on world open. For guidance on how to use this feature, including the basic flow and system requirements, read this Support Center article. If you want to see cloud storage in action, watch this short video.

Cloud storage is available today for Windows, Chromebook, and Android devices. Mac and iOS cloud storage is coming very soon.

Explore the new trial chambers biome, an underground structure filled with traps, tricky challenges, and treasure! Each sprawling structure is randomly generated, so you'll face different challenges each time. There’s even a guide on how to turn trial chambers into a cozy home.

For those who like to build there are tons of cool new blocks available in this update, like the crafter block which automates production, trial spawner, vault, tuff variants, copper variants. Meet new mobs like the breeze, armadillo, bogged, and wolf variants. Learn to use new items including scutes, mace, wolf armor, ominous bottle, and trial key. Note that Add-ons and Hardcore mode are not included in Minecraft Education.

Chemistry items like balloons and glowsticks are now available in your creative inventory. We added a Camera API and updated the ‘How to Play’ guide has been significantly to include an ‘Encyclopedia’. For those who play in survival mode, we added Recipe Unlocking and Recipe Book search improvements.

In regard to the user experience, the 'Manage Account’ button has been moved to the bottom right of the home screen so all your profile management is in one place. We’ve also fixed several bugs to improve performance and stability.

The Minecraft Education Preview application can now be installed at the same time as the main Minecraft Education application. There will be regular updates to the Minecraft Education Preview application over time. Windows Store and Android/Chromebook are currently supported with more platforms coming soon.
